fish and chips

Petang semalam, via sms:

"Wa buka kt umah.jap lg blk.mak nak msk apa?"

"Skg kt giant nak buat fs n cp"

Fehh...Mak punya bahasa sms memang ganas. Memang mencemar duli beliau sebagai mantan guru Bahasa Malaysia peringkat sekolah menengah. Selalu pun memang gitulah rupanya. Ayat semua bersambunggg je hingga ke penghujung rancangan. Tak wujud langsung simbol-simbol penulisan macam koma, noktah, tanda soal, tanda seru, apatah lagi titik bertindih. Tu belum kira lagi 'teka-teki abbreviation' dia..

fs n cp?? Berkerut-kerut dahi saya baca. Tapi malas nak tanya lagi. Tunggu sampai rumah je la tengok sendiri.

"Ooooooooo,,fish and chips.." Mmm,,sedapnya!

The best fish and chips I've ever had was the one at the Glasgow airport that I ate with Hajar when we were traveling together. Just touched down from Spain, there was one hour gap before my connecting flight to London. We were going up the escalator when our noses caught the most delicious smell in the world - bau makanan yang dimasak panas-panas,,wapnya terperangkap dalam udara yang dingin-dingin..sungguh menggiurkan!!

Only god knows how glad and excited we were at that time when we turned our heads around to find that the gastronomic smell came from a fish and chips outlet (hape entahla nama dia,,dah tak ingat plak), sebab fish=halal!

When we were in Spain, we hardly had properly cooked meals because finding halal food there was sooo damn hard. In Cordoba, a kind-hearted old Muslim lady even tried to help us in our quest, guiding us through the maze of the similar-looking buildings and knocked on every restaurant we saw to ask the people around (in Spanish, that is) whether there were any halal food prepared,,but to no avail. And another reason for our lack of proper meals was that we were traveling the Amazing Race-style, so meals were always kept simple to be taken on the go.

So after 4 days of tak makan betul-betul, you may just imagine how we became like the monyet sejurus ternampak pokok cili berbuah lebat..heheh ("tolongg..tolonggg...dah empat hari saya tak makannn..." *suara terketar-ketar). The hunger pangs and crave for masakan dihidang panas-panas pulled us straight into the dining place. Self-service, kena bersabar sikit untuk beratur beli makanan.

Hajar kata that was one of the best fish and chips there, and their outlets are spreading nationwide. And I totally agree that it was the best fish and chips I've ever had. With such a large and generous portion, isi ikan yang tebal dan panjang serta bersalut rangup, potato chips yang melimpah ruah dalam pinggan lebar tu, kitorang yang kelaparan ni share 2 orang pun boleh rasa kenyang. Tapi sebab nak memuaskan nafsu, I queued again for the second round..hahah.

Slowing down on the 2nd round..

Tapi semalam,,Mak punya fish and chips gila sedaaaaaaaappp. Semalam adalah berbuka yang paling kenyang sekali so far,,tahap senak-senak mengah masa terawih..hahah

Untuk tatapan adik2ku di perantauan..hahah. Tapi Mak kata nyesal tak terfikir langsung nak buat ni masa korang kt rumah aritu (Hajar tak masuk book ;p)

I helped to make the mashed potato-which was yummy! hahah..first time buat sendiri,,selama ni tengok Sarah buat je. Senang je rupanya.

Tapi buat banyak gila, padahal makan 2 orang je pun. So we had another round of fish and chips during sahur, this time together with Ayah. (Jadi sekarang dah tau, 2 ketul kentang gemuk dan besar can make a serving for 5)

Sedaaaaaaaapppp!
